This Chapter quartet was formed in 1997 primarily to compete in the Pioneer District Seniors Quartet Contest. The original quartet with Dick Weirich on tenor won the contest in 1999. Shortly afterward Dick and his wife JoAnn moved to Gulf Shores, AL. Soon afterwards the quartet acquired the services of Ron Thomet as tenor and in 2000 they won the right to represent the Pioneer District at the International Seniors Quartet Competition in Jacksonville, FL at the society's Mid Winter Convention. Shades of Grey wowed the audience with their performace!

When they are not snowbirding in Florida they entertain audiences all over Western Michigan. One of the qualifications for an official Senior's quartet is that their combined ages total 250 years or over! Fred Barr sang as bass in 2008. In 2009 'youngster' John Baker took over as bass so the quartet no longer qualifies as a Senior Quartet... yet.
