This Chapter quartet was formed in 1997 primarily to compete in the Pioneer District Seniors Quartet Contest. The original quartet with Dick Weirich on tenor won the contest in 1999. Shortly afterward Dick and his wife JoAnn moved to Gulf Shores, AL. Soon afterwards the quartet acquired the services of Ron Thomet as tenor and in 2000 they won the right to represent the Pioneer District at the International Seniors Quartet Competition in Jacksonville, FL at the society's Mid Winter Convention. Shades of Grey wowed the audience with their performace and when they are not snowbirding in Florida they entertain audiences all over Western Michigan. One of the qualifications for an official Senior's quartet is that their combined ages total 250 years or over! The quartet recently added up their 'barbershop' experience alone which totals 125 years!
