He has been a Chapter Officer and has sung in several quartets including Chord Production and the Lumbertown Chordsmen. Alan and his wife Phyllis moved to Muskegon in 1976 as an engineer for Consumer's Energy. They and their two children enjoy camping during the summer at some of Michigan's beautiful State Parks. Bass Al Smith lives in Lowell with his wife, Cindy, and two teenage boys Todd and Chris. He rehearses with the Great Lakes Chorus in Grand Rapids on Tuesday evenings, church choir on Wednesdays and “Showtime” on Thursdays, so there is lots of free time. (WHAT??). Al retired from United Airlines in 2005, but wants to continue working for a few more years. “Somebody’s got to pay for all this stuff.” Lead Doug Weaver although relativly new to barbershop is currently Chapter President of the Grand Rapids MI Barbershop Chapter Great Lakes Chorus and will be the 2012 Pioneer District President. Doug was a member of the acapella group Sidekicks and the barbershop quartet Barbershop Style. Doug is a world traveler, a, agent for Witte Travel he has also been helping other men and women's choruses with their travel needs. He is a resident of Grand Rapids and husband to Grand Rapids Women's Chorus member Lynn. Tenor Jim Johnson has been singing barbershop music for many years. During this time he has directed three Barbershop choruses, one Sweet Adelines chorus, sung in many quartets including Opening Night, Sounds Around, and Sound Expressions. He has been in three District Champion quartets and competed in the International Quartet competition on four different occasions. This is also his third time to sing in a quartet winning the Bush League Contest. They have three grown sons and four grandchildren. Wayne pays the bills by building cabinets. In his younger days he did a lot of singing in the field of Southern Gospel, but is a relative newcomer to Barbershop harmony. Although he admits he has a lot to learn, he’s enjoying the journey, and considers himself blessed to sing with this group of guys. Lead_ Tom Weidner lives in Jenison with his wife Cindy and two sons Josh and Jake. He has been involved with the Great Lakes Chorus since the late 1980’s having sung with them in the International Chorus competition on several occasions.
