Originally established in 1998. We were the 1999 Kwazy Kwartet champion in a contest held by the Lansing, Michigan SPEBSQSA Chapter. We then won the Bush League barbershop quartet contest in September, 2001 and were perennial Pioneer District finalists in quartet competitions. Our high point was when we placed second in the Summer, 2001 Buckeye Invitational National Comedy Quartet Championship held in Columbus, Ohio. The first place quartet in that contest was the Hot Air Buffoons who now are regulars at International. As Fools' Gold, we sang at chapter and corporate shows all over Michigan and even did a road show to Black River Falls, Wisconsin for their chapter show, no less.
Attached are pics of the original Fools' Gold quartet with Bill, Dan, Joel and Mark. The picture I attach with us in the sun glasses was when we opened for Intl. Champ Platinum on the Holland Tulip Time show. We also opened for Intl. Champ Michigan Jake on the Gratiot County show. Those were both really exciting.
Joel left the quartet in 2002 so we never got back to the Buckeye International. He was replaced by Jamie Carey, former District champ and GLC director on bari to finish out our shows. Mark then moved to Tennessee and he was replaced on bass for a few shows by Mark Wilson, who is now the tenor of Four Man Fishing Tackle Choir and a district champ quartetter. Then, we stopped at the end for 2002.
The quartet re-formed with Bill on tenor, Dan on lead, Stacy Oldenberg on bari and John Baker on bass in 2004. We did shows and competed, ending up in 2006 or so. Our last performance was the Alpena chapter show when we opened for then Party of Four, now Pioneer Intl. rep quartet.
