inging valentine quartet

The Grand Rapids Barbershop Chapter Great Lakes Chorus took me in and said they’d show me what barbershopping was all about. My first performance was for Valentines Day. The chorus divided into quartets recruited by lovers to sing to their Valentines wherever in the area they may be. My quartet got the day off from work, loaded up an SUV with roses, cards, and candy and raced around town. We sang to…

A realtor in her office who held up her phone for her boyfriend to hear.

A factory secretary where we had to shout over beeping and revving forklifts.

A home-maker with a toddler squirming on her hip.

An orthodontist whom we brought to tears.

Two lovers surrounded by candles and cuddling on their couch.

A kindergarten teacher in front of her class of stunned 5 year olds.

A high school principle in the cafeteria as a hundred students surrounded him with guffaws and applause.

An old woman in her small nursing home room packed with waiting family. We serenaded her with that old time love song, Heart Of My Heart as she floated off to sleep.

Best Valentines Day I ever had. And that’s what babershopping is all about!

Our quartets will be crisscrossing the Grand Rapids area streets again this Valentines February 12-14th. You can order your singing valentine online at our website GreatLakesChorus.org or by calling (616) 447-8338.
