I was looking
for online mixers instead of desktop ones but couldn't find any that I
could layer vocal tracks on like learning tracks. Then I found this
explaination (and more at the next link below too). "(Aviary) Myna (and
Indaba Mantis) can record tracks directly into projects just like a
regular desktop digital audio workstation (DAW). But like most other
online DAWs, it suffers from a big limitation, in that it cannot record
your new parts while playing back the old ones."

"The root of
the trouble is latency's the time lag that comes from trying to process
all that audio data and get it back out to your ears. From my rough
calculations, Soundation's latency was at least 10 times as severe than
with a typical home recording system. What that means for you is that
here, as with other online DAWs, there is no way to record new tracks
in real time as Soundation plays other elements of your song in the
background. The recording process is therefore to some extent blind,
and better suited to the arranging of pre-recorded tracks. If you are
working with already-recorded samples this is not an issue, and
besides, the cost of home recording system with lower latency for
multitrack recording can still add up to hundreds or even thousands of
dollars (our tip: try Audacity first, if that's what you're after)."

Pitch Pipe for
Android smart phones-
Musical Lite is a free app, a pitch pipe that looks like a pitch pipe
that sounds when you can either press and hold till you let go or a
quick swipe down and it'll stay on till you tap it again (also has the
weird additional feature that you can blow into the phone mic like a
real pitch pipe and it'll sound:) It has a metronome. It also has a
keyboard if you want to plunk out some notes if working off sheet music
(it also has an 8 piece drum set you tap the screen to use that I had
fun with:).

FourTracks Lite
a free multitrack
recorder app
(DAW Digital Audio Workstation)
I play a learning track on my computer, using the computer audio
settings to shift the balance and remove the predominant voice (in my
case lead) and hold my phone up to my computer speakers and record
those 3 voices onto one of the 4 tracks, put on my headphones, and
while playing it back singing the lead and recording it to a 2nd track.
Then I can play back both tracks simultaneously to hear how well I
blend or even isolate just my voice to pick out more issues. I can even
mix and email it for coaching all from the app. I would have preferred
an app that allowed me to import mp3 or wav learning tracks in their
original stereo using the USB port (instead of holding the phone up to
the computer speakers) and would also let me change the balance of each
track (or a separate left and right track for stereo) to remove the
predominant voice that way but haven't found one for droid yet. The app
J4T comes close to doing this except it mixes the stereo so the
predominant voice is now in both speakers (and also no balance control)
and it's not free.

Rehearsal
Assistant has an EXCELLENT uncompressed setting (3min song 13meg) is in
wav and sounds amazing even with cell phone mic capturing lots of
harmonic layers and dynamics. You and can email it, if your inbox is
big enough, so because of the uncompressed size I wouldn't want to
leave it on all rehearsal. It has an ok compressed quality setting
(3min song 500k) that doesn't distort when recording gets loud. The
compressed version only records in format 3GP audio so to play on
anything other than Rehearsal Assistant requires a converter. 3GP to
MP3 Converter by Shiver Software is available for free at downloads.com
site (free registration is required). Oh, and don't forget to mute your
phone ringer while recording:) (Unfortunately my follow up tests on the
RingDroid mp3 cutter app mic record function kept randomly shutting off
even after removing and reloading and the audio quality was poor.)

deciBel is a
free app, I'm still looking for a decibel app to chart out dynamics
(RingDroid's waveform graphic kinda does but a more defined numeric
result would more useful). The free droid app deciBel looks promising
but only as a rough gage though because phone mics arn't sensitive
enough.

Pandora
internet radio is free, ok it's not for rehearsing but it does have
barbershop music (and I recently discovered it also plays stand up
comedy:)

Voice
Health
Sometimes while singing my voice would suddenly get all 'froggy',
especially mornings. It would slip into these weird buzzing, creaking,
sputtering sounding voice breaks at any pitch range. 3 main factors
appear to be mild allergies, silent acid reflux, and dry air. For
general allergies to help with post nasal drip I use Clairton-D or the more generic version Wal-itin D (both are antihistamine but these versions have an added decongestant "D").
Since my alergy symptoms are mild it took a while to realize the reason pain relievers weren't helping my headaches was because they were sinus
headaches. I use a generic versions of either Tylenol Allergy Mulit-Symptom or Bnadryl Severe Allergy Plus Sinus Headache medicine. In fact I will often take these instead of the Wal-itin D because they're over the counter and seem to do the job.
For post nasal drip and hydration I use nasal irrigation with Neti Pot using Jala Neti Stage 2 technique.
For silent reflux I cut out the
energy drinks and use an antacid like Maalox.
If my voice is still buzzing
then as a stopgap measure it helps while singing to frequently swallow as well as
inhaling through the nose, and sucking on gummy bears candy. see
link for full story.
